What's new in Squidler
Your agent can now make video and music

Ask for a song or a short film and your agent writes it, has it made, and edits the pieces together. You see the price before anything is made. We asked Nora for a metal anthem, then for a music video starring herself.
Your agent has been able to make pictures for a while. Now it can make moving ones, and the music to go with them. Ask for a song, a short clip or a short film with a soundtrack, and your agent writes the lyrics or the shots, has them made, and puts the pieces together. That last part is the one you would otherwise do yourself: finding the right ten seconds of a song, joining two clips, laying the music underneath.
Video is made by Google's Veo 3.1 and music by Google's Lyria 3. We asked our project leader Nora to show what that looks like.
A song first
We started with something no project leader gets asked: "Create an epic metal song about the power of using the new media features in Squidler." Nora wrote the song, and then stopped to ask for something.

The music model is still in preview at Google, and it is not covered by our data processing agreement. So before your first song you are asked once, on a page that says what that means: what is sent to Google, that it may be processed outside the EU, and that a music request should hold no personal information and no pictures of people.

After Agree and make it, Nora was told to go ahead, and a minute later the song was done.

Google's filter turned her first version down without saying why. That attempt cost nothing, because you only pay for what is actually made, and she toned down the lyrics and tried again without being asked. The result is "Rise with the Squidler Storm": two minutes and eleven seconds of symphonic power metal, for 8 credits.
Then a video to go with it
Next: "Based on the second chorus, create a 10 seconds movie. Then cut out the relevant chorus parts from the song and combine into the movie."

Before starting, Nora said what she would make, scene by scene, and what it would cost. A video takes a few minutes, so she did not sit and wait: she cut the chorus out of the song while the clips were made, and picked the work up again when they were ready. Then she joined the two clips, trimmed them to ten seconds and laid the chorus underneath.
And one with her in it
Finally, we sent Nora her own portrait and our logo, and asked for more of us in it.

A video can be made from pictures you give it, so that a face or a logo stays the same from shot to shot. Nora passed both on, had two eight-second scenes made, and cut them to ten seconds over the same chorus, for about 128 credits.

She also pointed out the flaw herself: in the last couple of seconds the octopus hat looks more like a hood. She offered to end the clip earlier, or to make a new take of the second scene for about 64 credits. We kept it.
What it costs, and who decides
Video in particular costs real money, and every agent in an organisation draws on the same credits. So:
- You see the price first. Your agent tells you what it will make and roughly what it will cost before it starts.
- Up to a daily amount, it just makes it. Each organisation has an amount of credits a day, 1,000 unless an admin changes it, that agents may spend on video and music without asking. Everything above stayed under it.
- Past that, the person asking decides. Your agent gives you a link to a page with the price and what it covers, and nothing is made until you approve. In the web chat the request also shows up as a card. Nothing is refused, it waits for your yes, and one approval covers that piece of work for 24 hours, including any retakes you allow.
- You pay only for what is made. A clip that fails, or that Google's filter declines, costs nothing.
Good to know
- Not for organisations on EU data residency. Google does not offer these models with processing kept in the EU, so an organisation that chose EU residency does not get video or music.
- Music asks each person once. The agreement is yours, not your organisation's, and you can withdraw it at any time.
- The files are yours. Songs and videos land in your agent's files as MP3 and MP4, next to the separate scenes, so you can download them or ask for another cut.
- What each person had made is theirs. An admin can see who in the organisation had video or music made and what it cost, but not what it was.
Where to find it
Ask your agent for a song, a clip or a short film with music. An admin sets the daily amount under Video and music on the organisation's page, where there is also a link to see who had something made and what it cost.
